Highlights of the AANR-MW Convention at Fern Hills Club

Bloomington, IN -- The theme at this year’s AANR-Midwest Convention, held at Fern Hills Club was - Keep Calm & Camp On As we celebrate "The best of our best."

Junior AANR-Midwest (JAM) and Young AANR-Midwest (YAM) started out the week with a meetng in the morning on Monday and activities the rest of the day. In the afternoon the adults had Retro Volleyball and Bean Bags scheduled. In the evening there was Karaoke at the Roost. On Tuesday the morning was full with the Outboard meeting and the start of General Assembly. YAM Activities, JAM Meetings, 2's VB Tournament, Miniten and Badmitton Tournaments. In the afternoon Jam meetings, a billiards tournament, AANR-MW General Assembly meeting and YAM activities continued. In the evening the Wine & Cheese Party at "The Roost" was well attended and fun had by all. The theme for this event was "Ripple Invasion Celebration of 50 years."

On Wednesday people left the grounds early for a golf tournament. Those who stayed on the grounds enjoyed many Tournaments including Pickleball, Giant Ring Toss, Jam Meetings, Badminton Finals, Ping Pong, Yams Activities & Parade, Singles Darts and a Haunted Trail walk after dark in the heavily wooded areas of Fern Hills. On Thursday morning the YAMS & JAMS went off grounds for the day and WINR held a volleyball tournament. In the afternoon the General Assembly reconvened for the election of honor awards and new board members. Also held on Thursday were Petanque & Doubles Darts Tournaments. A themed parade in the evening "Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street" was held.

AANR Midwest volleyball started early Friday morning along with YAM & JAM activities and a WINR event.

Ping Pong finals, Bean Bag Horseshoes, Golf Cart barrel races concluded the afternoon events. In the evening we held the darts finals and enjoyed the outdoor music of the "Nudie Blues" from 9-10pm.

Saturday morning after breakfast more volleyball was played throughout the day until early evening. The YAMS put on an ice cream social. 7pm, at the Outdoor Pavilion those in attendance were treated to a YAMS & JAMS awards ceremony. Other awards were handed out to clubs and individuals for many achievements including but not inclusive for Man of the year, Woman of the Year, Family of the year and more. At 9pm those in attendance enjoyed 70's & 80's DJ music also held at the outdoor Pavillion. A great time was held by all in this heavily attended event.

On Sunday morning the volleyball finals began. The Convention came to a close on Sunday afternoon immediately following the AA Men’s volleyball finals. At 6pm those that decide to extend their stay at Fern Hills went to the Roost for a "potluck-pitch in" dinner.

The AANR-MIDWEST Board extends their thanks to Fern Hills Club for hosting another fine convention and hope to see everyone at next year’s 2017 event.
