MAN/WOMAN/FAMILY AWARDS

For AANR Midwest there were no nominees for Man or Woman of the Year. The Family of the Year award went to Ian, Val, Penny, and Evelyn of Blue Lake. 

The Fern Hills host club awards went to:

Family of the Year went to Jerry and Debbie and their 5 children.

YAMs AND JAMs OF THE DAY

Thursday’s YAM of the day was Aeiris for allowing Lexi to use her rocket. The JAMs of the day were Taryn and Cora for helping the YAMs with their rockets. 

Friday’s YAM of the day was Ozzie for his good attitude. The JAM of the day was Taryn for her leadership at the Escape Room.

AANR VOLLEYBALL 

The volleyball fours “King of the Court” and “Queen of the Court” competitions were held yesterday. Winners were:

  • AA King: Dennis of Blue Lake
  • AA Queen: Carly of Blue Lake
  • B King: Richard of Oakwood
  • B Queen: Christine of Oakwood

(And let the record show that, in head-to-head competition, Christine whooped Richard!)

Fern Hills AA volleyball team won 1st place… Congratulations to Nikki and Lance of Fern Hills, Carly of Blue Lake, Joe K., Aaron of Turtle Lake, and Andy P. You all did an amazing job playing!

Congratulations to Phoenix Rising on winning B coed Volleyball: Dave, Pinky, John and Ruthann of Blue Lake; also Jamie of Fern Hills and Richard of Oakwood.

SPECIAL VOLLEYBALL AWARDS:
The Gary Shepard MVP went to Aaron F. of Blue Lake. The Marv Hylin and Brenda Hylin Fauster Sportsmanship Award went to Blake of Turtle Lake. The Harold Brown MVP award went to Dave (bandana Dave) of Blue Lake. The Tom Goin MVP woman went to Christine of Oakwood. Congratulations to you all!! What a blast it was watching and playing.

TEXAS HOLD’EM

The Texas Hold’ Em tournament was competitive with the pot being split between Richard of Oakwood and Kevin (“The Sports Guy”) of Turtle Lake Resort. Congrats Gentlemen!

PING PONG

For the first time in several years there were enough participants to separate ping pong into men’s and women’s tourneys. The women’s ping pong tournament was especially competitive with each game being decided by two points, and two games going to extra points. The winner was Alice of Prairie Haven. The men’s winner was George W. Of Fern Hills. Congratulations!

DARTS

The blind draw doubles darts tournament finished late Friday night. There were twelve participants. First place went to Brian B. of Fern Hills and Barb of Whispering Oaks. Second place went to Christala B. (newlywed to first place Brian B.) and Greg, an associate member. Congratulations!

EUCHRE

Congratulations to Carolyn of Fern Hills on her win in the euchre tournament! There was a tie for second place between Bob C. and Larry L. both of Fern Hills.

BEAN BAG TOSS

Thirty-eight people competed in the bean bag toss. Marilyn of Fern Hills and Barb of Whispering Oaks beat Pamela and George S. both of Fern Hills 21-4 in the final game. Congratulations!

DIRTY BIRD

Six conventioneers participated in the dirty bird tournament yesterday. A round robin format was used. Alice of Prairie Haven scored 53 of a possible 55 to win the tournament. Congratulations, Alice!

LADDER GOLF

Congratulations to Debbie G. of Fern Hills and Jason of Indiana Naturists on their win in ladder golf.

PETANQUE

Speaking of Debbie G., she also won the Petanque competition along with Ken R., also of Fern Hills. Congratulations!

2019 CONVENTION 

As you all know, Fern Hills has been awarded the AANR Midwest convention for 2019. Please be sure to make your reservations for next year before leaving.. 

FEAST LANE

The winner of the award for best use of theme in the golf cart division (food from around the world) went to Mike, Lois, Mark, and Pam, all of Fern Hills.  

The judge’s favorite was awarded to the drum circle, YAMs. 

The most unusual parade entrant was awarded to the Amish cart, Larry of Drake’s Ridge. 

In the category of best decorated booth, the best use of theme award went to Jamaican Me Naked, Jeff, Diane, Steve, and Robyn, all of Fern Hills. 

The Judge’s favorite booth was given to the Taco Bar, Fern Hills. 

The most unusual booth was Lebanese, Steve and Anita, Fern Hills. 

Thanks to everyone who contributed and/or worked. It was a very nice party, and DJ Shawn D. did a great job getting people dancing at the courts.

THURSDAY GENERAL ASSEMBLY 

Our AANR Midwest board met again yesterday in general assembly. Additional votes were seated for Prairie Haven, an associate member; and Forest Hills gave their proxy to Oakwood. 

Judy L. gave the board a synopsis of Kids Kamp. 

Service awards were presented to Rick of Sunshower and Cheryl formerly of Great Lakes. 

Richard of Oakwood was Re-elected as President. Jennifer of Cedar Trails was elected as Vice President. Both were unopposed. 

New board members sworn in yesterday were Chuck of Blue Lake and Missy of Oakwood. She will also remain WINR chair. 

The 2019 AANR Midwest convention was again awarded to Fern Hills and is scheduled for July 21st thru the 28th.

THURSDAY INBOARD MEETING

The 2019 board was sworn in. 

The Fall Conference was bid on by Cedar Trails, Avatan, Sunshower, and Forty Acres. It was awarded to Forty Acres. It will be held October 5-6. 

Appointments made by the President today were Mildred H. As Secretary/Treasurer, Mary P. As Recording Secretary, Jawn B. as Legal Counsel, and Terry M. as Legislative Chair. 

The board approved offering matching grants again in 2019. There is $1,000 available for non-landed clubs and $5,000 for landed clubs. 

Rick M. gave a presentation to the board on youth in nudism. 

The procedure manual was updated with convention fees and reimbursements, and will be added to the website later.

On Thursday the population of convention grew to 240.

PICKLEBALL KING OF THE COURT

Fifteen gentlemen competed to become “King of the Court”. Scott of Sunshower won, with Richard of Oakwood being the “B” winner.

HORSESHOE RESULTS

Six conventioneers played in the horseshoe tournament. Byron of Oakwood won. Congratulations!

Fifteen women competed in the WINR volleyball tournament. The competition was fierce. Nikki of FHC won, with Carly of Blue Lake taking second. Well played!

QUEEN OF THE COURT

Five ladies participated in the pickleball “Queen of the Court” tournament Wednesday morning. The new reigning queen is Pamela from FHC. Nikki of FHC placed second.

Three teams competed in the annual convention golf scramble. The winners were Chuck from Blue Lake, Brian from FHC, and Bill from FHC. Congratulations golfers!

YAM/JAM UPDATE

The YAM of the day was too difficult to pick. The kids were off grounds, and everyone got along and played well together. So, the YAMS of the day are: Lucas, Ozzie, Aeiris, Ayden, Chloe, Hailey, Alexis, Ethan, Ana, Rebecca, James, and Penny.

The JAM of the day is Mike. Today he sold his fifth bag of tickets and has qualified for the off-grounds outing.

NEWS & NOTES:

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The General Assembly met Tuesday. Of the twenty-eight clubs in the region, eleven clubs had representatives at the meeting, and two had proxy voters for a total of seventy-nine seated votes.

The assembly approved the actions of the 2017-2018 board of directors. There are two openings on the board, so if you are interested in serving AANR Midwest, please see a board member or director.

Byron of Oakwood is the official photographer of convention. Prior to taking your photo, he will ask permission and have you sign a waiver. The photos may appear on an AANR website or The Bulletin.

AANRMW offers matching grants to both landed and non-landed clubs. No club applied for the non-landed grant. The landed grant of five thousand dollars was awarded to Forest Hills for pool improvements. If your club would like to apply, please visit AANRMW.com to download the application.

No applications were submitted for Hall of Fame induction this year.

There were four applicants for scholarships this year, but only two of those were fully completed. Both applicants were awarded scholarships.

Club Nuance in Michigan is a new AANR affiliate. They are a B&B with over two hundred acres.

The 1st Annual Co-Ed Pickleball Tournament was held Tuesday. There were 5 couples who participated. It was a Round Robin format. The winners were Jeff and Pam J. from Fern Hills Club. Second place winners were Richard and Christine from Oakwood. Large monogrammed towels were given out to the winners.

As everyone knows, the population of the host club grows daily through convention. As of Tuesday evening, the population of Fern Hills Club is 159, but the Blue Lake group promised lots more attendees! The members of FHC hope that all our guests are enjoying their visit. And if there is anything we can do to improve convention, please let any member or the office know.

Monday the YAMS made drums, played freeze tag, made shrinky dinks, and had a pizza party.

Tuesday they will tie dye shirts, have a water balloon fight, then host their big activity, the hot dog and Ice Cream Social at 1:30. Hot dogs are $2, ice cream is $1, and ice cream with cobbler is $3. Please purchase your lunch and/or dessert to support the YAM activities. Of course donations are always accepted. Ice Cream Social will be held at lot 601 by the lower bathhouse on the main road.

Nine players tried out the newly painted pickleball court this morning. Participants were Pam J, Jeff J., Don S., Brian B., Nikki S., Lance S., George S. and Jerry U., all from Fern Hills Club; as well as Christine C. from Oakwood.

Big thanks to the members who had a hand in painting the court or providing the net and balls. Great games!

The court is available every day beginning at 9:30 a.m. Beginners are welcome!
